Mapbox documentation

You can use these APIs to retrieve information about your account, upload and change resources, use core Mapbox tools, and more. Each of these services has its own overview page in this documentation.

These overview pages are divided into the individual APIs that make up the service. The documentation for each API is structured by endpoints.

The example requests in this documentation will include your default access token if you are signed into your Mapbox account. Your default access token is available on your Account Dashboard. When you create a new access token, you can give it one or more token scopes. Each scope adds a different permission to the token, allowing it to be used to access restricted APIs. Throughout this documentation, we specify the scope required to access each endpoint.

If no scope is specified, then your default access token will work to access that endpoint. We encourage you to use the newest available version of the Mapbox APIs.

If you need a rate limit that is higher than the default, contact the Mapbox sales team. The following table lists the default rate limit for each API.

You can tweak the colors and fonts on a core style in minutes and start using the map in an app or website, or you can build your own map style from the ground up with custom data and carefully crafted style layers. Mapbox Studio also lets you import data to use in your styles.

When you import data into Mapbox Studio, your data is converted into vector tiles. Finally, Mapbox Studio includes a dataset editor that lets you manage your own datasets. The dataset editor makes it possible to add point, line, and polygon features with draw tools. It includes a property editor for adding custom fields to your features. In Mapbox Studio, datasets can be converted to tilesets and then used in styles.

A Style Component is a group of associated layers that together represent a common cartographic feature. Components wrap thousands of decisions made by our cartographers into a simple, curated set of controls for color, typography, and feature density. Each component includes built-in styles, as well as a set of options unique to the features the component contains.

The options within each component are designed by cartography experts at Mapbox to be as meaningful and impactful as possible. Components make customizing maps easier and faster in Studio by reducing the number of decisions needed to get the desired outcome. Any new style you create in Mapbox Studio will automatically have components enabled.

All of our core styles have been rebuilt using components. Each core style leverages components in their own way — setting properties, colors and more to provide the best starting point for you to customize your map. Color and typography settings are shared across every component in a style. When you make changes to color or typography settings on a style, those changes always apply across every component.Last updated July 4, This guide will help you in creating a Mapbox account and setting up an account token in the FTW environment configuration.

Sign up to Mapbox and go to the account page. Then copy the Default public token. Create the token and copy its value. You can make access tokens in your web applications more secure by adding URL restrictions. When you add a URL restriction to a token, that token will only work for requests that originate from the URLs you specify. See the Mapbox documentation for domain restrictions. For local development, you can add the variable in the Gitignored. The location autocomplete input in the landing page and the topbar can be configured to have specific locations shown by default when the user focuses on the input and hasn't yet typed in any searches.

This reduces the typing required for common searches and also reduces the need to use Mapbox geolocation API that much. The same environment variable also shows "current location" suggestion, which will make the browser to ask user's current location. This is a fast way to search listings nearby. Mapbox geocoding API doesn't always return bounding boxes for locations.

Without bounding box SearchMap component can't adjust zoom level right for that particular place. Therefore there are default bounding boxes defined to different place types in the Mapbox specific geocoder:.

If your marketplace works only in a specific country or countries it might be a good idea to limit the location autocomplete to those countries. Search for variable countryLimit and uncomment the line to make it active. Provide the country or countries in an array using ISO alpha 2 format eg. If there are multiple values, separate them with commas. It is possible to use Google Map instead of the default map provider. The default map setup of FTW uses library called mapbox-gl-js.

It supports quite many other map providers too. Thus, if you wish to use a map provider other than Google Maps or Mapbox, first check if the map provider you are considering is supporting this library.
